Ping! at the Roundhouse

Back to previous page

We will take it for granted that you all know The Roundhouse in Camden. For those of you who might not be aware of what we are talking about, this is an iconic venue where the  likes of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Patti Smith, David Bowie and the Doors have, among others, played in the past.

Ping! can now claim a place in history, after our Bats and Beats event took place there last Friday (13 July). The lovely Steph Singer was in charge of this  innovative concept, whose main aim, as the title suggestes, was to mix contemportary spoken word (a musical genre combining rap and poetry, only cooler than both!) with the sounds of table tennis. The members of Elephant, the boundary-busting Roundhouse associate poetry collective put their words to the pace of the ping pong strikes provided by John and Tom, creating a unique experience! The result excited both the audience and the attending reporters from CCTV, CNN and Olympic Television. The evening continued with freeplay and cocktail specialities from the Roundhouse’s newly founded Camden Beach bar!

Here are some pictures from the evening:
